“Synthetic Reconstructions”, acrylic on canvas, 22”x 23”,sold
This painting deals with themes of surface appearances. My thoughts on the piece is that the rubber ducky symbolizes a superficial synthetic nature, a construction to the natural world while not actually being grounded in any reality.
I made this painting in the midst of Canada’s 150 years celebrations while reflecting upon “progress”. What does the next 150 years hold for the upcoming generations and will it come at the cost of the environment.
Coincidentally, at the same time of making this painting I was surprised to learn that taxpayers money had been put toward the touring of a giant rubber ducky in commemoration of Canada’s 150 years.
