“Mycelium”, 5’x3’, acrylic on canvas
This painting “Mycelium“ references the nature in which mushroom roots grow to form extensive networks beneath the surface. I was drawn to this metaphor, mycelium, in illustrating the digital networks which connect us and our technological devices to each other. At the same time it was my intention to portray the dissociative elements that arise with more connectivity and screen time, seemingly furthering the divide between the natural and synthetic aspects of life. I feel our technological devices have become a prosthetic extension of the body, informing thought patterns, social behaviors and our connection to our surroundings.
